Photographing black dogs

Posted in Uncategorized on August 12, 2009 by camerachick

I’m going to be photographing a friend of a friend’s dog soon. A black lab so I’m already imagining a black blob of energy! I found this great little blog post from the North Shore Animal League and thought it was worth posting here.

Focal length

I am currently on the hunt for something to help explain all the numbers on my lenses. Ugh. So sad to think I am so math challenged that I can’t even figure out my glass. This feels like the early morning tutorials for Algebra I endured. Am I the only lens idiot?

I bought myself a Manfroto tripod for my birthday and took to a local carnival for some long exposures. Here are my results. Later today I shall play with stop motion.

10 shots

Suggest movement

Freeze motion

stop motion

Ok, this is going to be fun. I think I am going to try and capture some light trails since I have not yet tried that. If I was a brave soul with deep pockets, I might try to crazy technique of “camera tossing” but you point and shoot gals might have fun with it. What is this crazy talk? http://cameratoss.blogspot.com/2005/10/camera-toss-mini-howto.html

A-ha ladies, check here if interested. For my point and shoot friends ,check your camera, many of you should be able to choose shutter priority mode that will enable you to capture light play.

And here are some concise explanations of what shutter speed, f stops (aperture) and ISO mean:
